Økonomi

Den Danske Sømandskirke i New York er en privat kirke under Danske Sømands- og Udlandskirker (DSUK). 

Til trods for, at Sømandskirken er "folkekirken i USA", er kirkens økonomi meget forskellig fra en dansk sognekirkes. Sømandskirken modtager ikke kirkeskat fra Danmark og menigheden er ansvarlig for hele kirkens økonomi bortset fra Sømandspræstens løn, der bliver betalt af DSUK. 

Midlerne til kirkens drift stammer dermed fra indsamlinger, donationer, gaver, arv, betaling for kirkelige handlinger og ikke mindst kirkens årlige julemarked, hvor mange i menigheden giver en stor hånd med.
Der findes ikke noget egentligt kontingent til kirken, men man kan frit yde et bidrag til Sømandskirken. Bidrag til kirken er fradragsberettigede. 

 

 

 

 

Economy

The Danish Seamen's Church in New York is a private church under the Danish Seamen's Church Abroad (DSUK).

The Danish Seamen's Church receives no church tax from Denmark and the congregation is responsible for the entire economy of the church, apart from the pastor’s salary, which is paid by DSUK.

The funds for the church's operations originates entirely from fundraising, donations, gifts, inheritances, payments for church functions and especially the church's annual Christmas fair, where many in the congregation lend a hand.
There is no actual membership fee, but you can make a contribution to the Seamen's Church at any time. Contributions to the church are tax deductible.
